"I heard there was a secret chord," Ophelia's light voice danced through the damp underground tunnels. She navigated the subway tunnels. Ophelia tried her best to stay on the rusted track that ran along the middle of the tunnel. Normally, the tunnels would be dark as night, but due to some destruction that had been caused, cracks in the tunnel ceiling now allowed for light to filter in. There was also a large gap in the tunnel a few hundred yards in front of Ophelia that let in a significant amount of light.
"That David played and it pleased the Lord." Ophelia slipped off the tracks and barely caught herself as she careened to the right, her hand shooting out and desperately grasping for something. She gasped and her singing was cut off as her feet shuffled before finding a solid placement on the floor. She took a shaky breath before continuing her way, this time on solid ground.
"But you don't really care for music do ya?" Ophelia smiled as the sing song question left her lips and she came to the massive rubble pile that was once the ceiling of Chicago's subway system. Sunlight was shining in. The sunlight looked different now, less bright, almost sickly. Could something not alive and so far be sickly? But Ophelia was sure of it. The sunlight here looked ill. Her hand reached out and swiped through the sunlight, scattering the dust particles that had been sitting within it.
"Well it goes like this-" Ophelia was cut off as she placed one hand on a protruding block on the rubble pile. She took a deep breath and lifted herself up. To her right, over a slightly taller stack of rubble was another tunnel. This was unnaturally dark. Ophelia felt unnerved staring into it. The tunnel seemed to desire her. She looked up into the outside world and then back at the tunnel. There was something in the tunnel that had not been there before, two red orbs. They were transfixed on her. Could it be electricity? Two red lights on a subway control box or something? How could that be? Chicago was almost a complete electricity dead zone.
Ophelia continued looking at the lights. The two red orbs then blinked. She took a sharp breath, turned around and sprinted back to Union Station, desiring the safe, natural comfort of humanity.
